I had the pleasure of presenting social media marketing to the Jackson Startup Group on Thursday and it was a great success. Actually the membership grew to almost double and this led to a lot of energy from the audience. I also learn a lot about crowdfunding. Crowd funding or crowdfunding (alternately crowd financing, equity crowdfunding, or hyper funding) describes the collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations. Crowd funding occurs for any variety of purposes,[1] from disaster relief to citizen journalism to artists seeking support from fans, to political campaigns, to funding a startup company, movie [2] or small business[3] or creating free software. Another aspect of crowd funding is tied into the United States of America JOBS Act which allows for a wider pool of smaller investors with fewer restrictions. The Act was signed into law by President Obama on April 5, 2012. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is going to have approximately 270 days from the enactment date to set forth specific rules and methods to ensure that funding will actually take place. Our local team that is making this happen is: yocofund.com and you can visit them at facebook.com/yocofund and they will be able to give you more insight. If you would email me I will send you some free info that could jumpstart your social media issues. Thanks, and tell yocofund I sent you. donwansley@acnrep.com

Facebook post scheduler

Third-party apps that schedule post just got a little less relevant with the latest update from FB. The Page admins can now schedule post and give duties to multiple page admins with varying responsibilities. A new help center page from FB gives this outline. Manager, Content Creator, Moderator, Advertiser and Insights Analysis are some of the duties listed. Post can be scheduled six months in advance in 15 minute intervals. You can now streamline your team to fit their abilities. Can you use these new tools? Does this change your strategy?

Google Drive/Docs and Cloud Printing.

In the previous article I talked about the new and exciting world of Google Plus. Google Drive, Docs and Cloud Printing are some of the key components of this platform. Google Drive is an extension of Google Docs and it's folders can sync with like folders on your hard drive giving you the ability to access these files from anywhere. They start you out with 5 gigs but you can upgrade. The collaboration feature allows for real time updates and you can see who is working on the doc. From inside the email client I can video chat, and make phone calls to add more features. Docs is really set up to be MS office in the clouds. All programs from ms to open office function here. Google Cloud Printing allows smart devices to print to wireless printers. Some new printers have this eprint feature but Google Cloud Printing acts as a buffer and will work even if the printer is connected through the pc. Your Drive/Docs can also be shared and viewed in the Google Plus Hangout tool(streaming video). This allows for the collaborations to take on more of the personalities of it's originators. For small and home businesses these tools can be a money and time saver.

Google Plus

Google+ is in a rare spot on the net these days. It's the only service I'm aware of where you can do just about everything -- publish, chat, stream, email and blog. You can even use it as a social network. G+ allows you to stream live and hold group chats up to 16 people. When you stream live it's called a hangout and you invite people to join in. One great feature is that it is also broadcast on YouTube and it is archived there when the session is complete. Back in the day with YouTube if you had a producers account you could have videos above the alloted 10 minute limit. Now with G+ this feature has been expanded to full length features. When you are in Hangout mode you are able to chat, screen share, and share documents all during your live stream. This can be a great real time collaboration tool. Webinars, meetings and just having fun with family and friends are possible all in one place. You also have the ability to post to Facebook and Twitter. With the use of some RSS feed tools, which we will discuss in a later post, every time you publish it can reach your social media. Most of us know of blogger and what it does but it adds to the overall power of G+. One of the least known services is Google Talk(voice). This feature gives you an online phone service with good features including call screening. You also can make calls from inside the Gmail client and from your cell phone. If you want to have a presence outside of your cell phone number this could be a great app. Overall G+ is a good place to start for an overall communication suite.

Aside from being a business owner I also coach high school basketball at a boarding school in Mississippi. Our students come from all over the world and they get to experience dorm life, study halls, classes and other structured activities through out the day. One thing that I picked up on was the passion the international kids had for being in our country and at our school. It's the ultimate story of I love home but I'm not trying to go back until I reach my goal. They excel in academics as well in sports. Our team the past two years has had 30 of 34 players on the honor roll. Most of the international players become our leaders and most of it is the example they set through out the day. Sometimes even in difficult periods we tend to want to stay in our comfort zone even if no progress is being made. You must replace habits for habits to achieve different results. What's working for you? Get better at that and add on a new tool or method. Then we must work at it and let it work.

What do you believe?

It is a well-known fact that one comes to believe whatever one repeats to one's self, whether the statement be true or false. If a person repeats a lie over and over, the lie will eventually be accepted as truth.

What do you believe?

You are what you think.

Advisers

"Highly effective leaders trust advisers to help them explore new ideas and discover critical solutions. The candor, talent, expertise, and heart of those we choose will help illuminate our blind spots and navigate the road ahead. Indeed, people without an adviser operate somewhat in the dark, lacking healthy, outside perspective." As a leader, you must understand that it's not possible to know everything, so we should have people in place to fill in the gaps. You should have a group of advisers, or Master Mind Group , to help with this task. It's not to know everything but to know where to find the answers. Advisers help you keep your focus.
